Having a long haired working collie we have trouble with matted fur and mud etc i tend to cut up the mat towards the skin making the mat in to 2 sometimes having to split in to 4 once you have done that it seems to easy just the pull the mat out not hurting the dog. Does anyone have any advice or tips on the best way to work my way through this groom without doing irreparable damage to his coat. I ve successfully groomed matted seriously tangled german spitz in the past but have no experience of a rough collie.
